In backwards order

Stairs down to mammoth cave

Friday morning to drive home

After we checked on the wall, we started hiking the 5 miles back to the parking lot. The ranger said it would be flat and easy, but it was a ton of ups and downs, thorns, and fallen trees. We even saw a bear cub running over a hill. Near the end, there were a lot of leaves and branches that where cut off. We shoved our packs in our cars, and drove to the store near cafes cove to buy ice cream. We hit the road again at and drove 4 hours to get to the KOA. We saw some Amish people and silly store names like "deer and chicken check in" on the way. Once we got to the kampgrounds (yes, With a K) of America, we set up our tents on a hill because our campsite was wet. And spent the rest of the day playing euchre, cooking, eating dinner and ice cream, bouncing on a giant inflatable  "pillow" and most importantly, showering. We all smelled terrible after 4 days with no shower and hiking a lot each day. Even after showering my rain coat smelled awful. We went to bed around 10:30 and I fell asleep instantly. I got up early the next morning to go to the bathroom, and I saw the sun rising over a mountain with mist all around me. The sunrise was red and made the mist look even cooler. After I went back to the tent, I was woken up 30 minuets later and told to pack up every thing in the tent not including the tent so it could dry out. We brought up bagels, pop tarts, fruit , bars, and peanuts and then played euchre. We then ate breakfast and packed up our tents to head to mammoth cave. The drive was 20 minutes, but we expected it to be 40. Once w got there, we took a look thorough the museum until we had to go. We got to true entrance, and it wasn't nearly as spectacular as I expected. It was just a metal door. I heated the historic entrance was cooler though. As soon as I walked in, I became very cold and I saw some cave crickets near the door. The door was steel to prevent artificial airflow. we walked thorough metal wet stairs and a steep drop. Once we got to a big cavern, we learned about the person who discovered the cave, and we got to see what total darkness really was when he turned off the lights. We also saw the "fairy city", frozen Niagara, and tons of stalagmites and stalactites. We got out and drove to Golden Coral where we are at a all you can eat buffet.
